OK. Who's coming and when, 2011

Post  Shortie on Tue Oct 19, 2010 10:11 pm

Thought that I would start this now so that anyone wanting to meet other members will know when they are out. Also, I want to make a bit of a bash sometime, so I would like to know when there are enough members out here to make it worthwhile.

Our first trip next year is likely to be the last week of June and first week of July. Traditionally, that has always been when we come out, cos it's busy enough but not too busy and the weather is always good. Having met Jan and Marty this year, we are hoping to meet up again next as they are lovely people, so that will form part of our decision. As we will be coming out with easyJet, we can come out and return really anytime, whereas Marty is struggling to find a deal from Newcastle. So, once they find something, and once easyJet get their act together, we will be coming out sunny

The PD's are undecided yet ....we're tied somewhat to school holidays and i'm a tight arse.
We will be back though , just don't know when....maybe 2 x 1 weeks again like this year ....the missus wants a longer break but we have a business so two weeks makes me nervous.

do what the others do, risk the fines, it's a lot cheaper than the inflated rip off holiday prices and how ridiculous is it to make you feel bad about it, we've all done it for years. They soon catch up!! it's different when they get to serious exam years. Let them enjoy their childhood.

Bit off subject, but picking up on the point of taking kids out of school term time. We always took our son out last week of June and first week of July, we asked permission once, but were refused, so from then on just did it. Nothing happened. I worked in secondary schools for over 10 years, and once the GCSEs are over in June, vitually nothing happens. for the final 2 - 3 weeks of school, all teachers go into holiday mode and spend their time playing videos to the kids, doing word searches and etc. There is virtually no teaching going on, and it does not disadvantage your child to take them out for those final weeks - that 's the truth. Headteachers don't like people doing it, because it screws there attendance figures, which affects league tables. We still go out at that time, even tho our son is now 18 - it's a good time to go!

Completely agree Shortie!

We've got two daughters, one in Reception and one in Y5, and we're staying at the AV from 29th May for 2 weeks, which means we're taking them out of school for a week. We've got permission from the headteacher, so all is well!
Wink

We are sooooo looking forward to our hols - Sept 2009 was the last time we were in Alykanas and we never visit the same place twice, but we are making an exception for this beautiful place!

What we would dearly love to do is maybe up to 3 weeks in July/August.
We need to do 2 things ...1.find decent flights and 2.trust leaving our business in the hands of our staff.
The first one is not much of an issue and shouldn't be too difficult but the second one makes me worry.
I have left for two weeks only once and nothing disastrous happened.in fact it went well...i think it's only my insecurities holding me back.
Three weeks would be great but i'm not sure i could handle 21 cosy specials ....or could i ?

I promised you that I would keep going through the winter, and I will - you will probably get fed up with all my questions! So here's another, EasyJet have started to show flights for next year, Gatwick only at present and you can't book em! However, we are looking at coming out on 23rd June, flying back 10th July, totalling 17 nights. After my experiences with your red wine, I think it would be safer to stay at the Venus again (close proximity). Can I book, and how much? king PS I am not sure about this idea of a new website for alykon - I am very happy with this one, and it only seems to be Tony who gets annoyed at the pop ups. C'mon, they are easy to delete, and harmless Laughing
